Jovan Pešalj is a migration historian and a lecturer at the Faculty of Humanities, Leiden University. His research interests include migration governance, the history of borders and border controls, migration and ethnicity, residence and citizenship acquisition, and political economy. He has authored several articles and papers in academic publications. He is currently completing a book on the early history of border checks in Europe and an edited volume on the history of international mobility control.
