Kerilyn Schewel is a sociologist who uses mixed-methods research to understand how processes of development reshape patterns of human migration, with an emphasis on the themes of gender, education, urbanization, youth, and immobility. Her work has appeared in Social ForcesPopulation and Development Review, and International Migration Review, among others. Dr. Schewel is a Lecturing Fellow at the Duke Center for International Development at Duke University and a Senior Researcher at the International Migration Institute. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Amsterdam and an MSc in Migration Studies from Oxford University. She previously held a post-doctoral position at the University of Amsterdam and visiting researcher positions at Addis Ababa University and Princeton University.
