Dr. Matthew Hoye

Job title
Associate Professor of Global Justice at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs - Leiden University

I am a teacher working at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs at Leiden University. I am also a disciplinarily omnivorous academic, trained in political theory and the history of ideas, but with an interest in history, law, philosophy, political science, technology, and the humanities. Presently, I am carrying out three major lines of research. The first is on Thomas Hobbes, focusing on topics that all gravitate around the question of virtue and statecraft. The second is on republicanism, often focusing mostly on migration and less so on surveillance and corporate power. The third is on remittances and global justice. The third line of research takes up the majority of my time.
