Associate Strategy Officer - Open Society Foundations & PhD Candidate - Erasmus University Rotterdam

Maria Kohutova is an external Ph.D. candidate at Erasmus University in Rotterdam. Her research focuses on the research-policy nexus in climate migration. She will map out the development of the climate migration field, analyze policy developments, as well as study the research-policy dialogues.

Maria is originally from Slovakia but currently lives in Berlin, Germany, and works as an Associate Strategy Officer in the Strategy Unit at the Open Society Foundations in the Public Health Program at the Open Society Foundations. She has also founded and has been co-leading a Slovak NGO, Vivat Vero, which works on limiting the spread of disinformation and conspiracies online.

In the past, Maria worked for international organizations such as the UN and OSCE, for governmental institutions, small businesses, as well as civil society. In her career as a project coordinator, she co-led several European projects focused on, among others, disinformation, public health, diversity, and integration of refugees.

Maria has two Master’s degrees – one in European Studies from the Masaryk University in the Czech Republic and another one in Public Administration, with a specialization in Governance of Migration and Diversity from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, which she graduated cum laude.
